Breckenbrough offers support to parents in a wide range of ways through our experienced members of staff and from parents who have placed their child at Breckenbrough. This support varies from free telephone conversations to direct support and assessment from our therapeutic staff.
We are aware to the stress and strains of being a parent of a child who is different and challenging. We know about how parents have known that their child is different from a very early stage and not being able to understand why. Many have suffered from the social embarrassment of their child behaving badly in public and in schools. Adults both fellow peers and in too many cases professionals have raised their eyebrows and either directly or indirectly questioned their parenting skills. We recognise the loneliness and sense of isolation that many parents feel and the difficulties that there is to get your child assessed and diagnosed and in obtaining the appropriate and support that your child needs.
