Cornering
The link to Gradie came through Brad Ogden, one of the growing band of people who support the school motocross track by giving their time for free to ensure all the machines are kept in good order so the boys can use them as often as possible.
Gradie was brought to Breckenbrough by Barry Dring the contractor who kindly completely re-worked the motocross track to take in the new area of land. This has enhanced the circuit to make it more challenging and enjoyable for all. Gradie’s father Danny was on hand to twirl the spanners involved in setting up the 85cc KTM suspension to suit the new Breckenbrough track.
Of course there was a great deal of excitement from our boys as they have never seen a fellow school boy ride an 85cc big wheel machine to its full limit as Gradie did. He completed three sighting laps of the track with the boys watching from outside the safety fence and then, after adjustments to his suspension, rode at race speed. This was somewhat jaw dropping for me. As for the boys, well, I think admiration of Gradie’s skills was much in evidence!
To give the boys a better view of his riding skills and to pass on the knowledge, we took the boys into the centre of the track on the viewing area to watch Gradie’s second session and pick up tips on riding the corners smoothly. When he had finished our boys quickly showed they had been paying complete attention and copied his cornering style to great effect.
All boys present on the afternoon passed on their thanks to Gradie, Danny and Barry for giving up their time and answering a lot of questions throughout their time with us. Stu Edwards has written to Gradie’s school passing on Breckenbrough’s thanks for allowing his visit in academic time. We at Breckenbrough wish Gradie good luck with his motocross career and will keep an eye on his results. It was a fabulous afternoon.
