The school applied for and recieved a grant from the National Lottery to develop the pond area of the school as part of the BBC Breathing Places scheme. The aim of the scheme is 'to bring nature to life'. The school pond had become silted and stagnant. The vegetation surrounding it was overgrown and lacking diversity.

With the grant from the lottery, supported by funds from the school, the pond was dredged and refilled in the summer of 2007. We aim to plant new vegetation, place bird and animal boxes and to add native fish in 2008. Educational resources are being developed including a nature orienteering course. Local schools will also be invited to use the resource.

Nice to see the pond looking so good.Around 1968/69 it had the same treatment, without a grant. Brian Guy instigated the great pond revival. It was drained through a sluice at the end nearest the Ha Ha(now filled in I think)Once emptied it was cleaned out and the banks rebuilt where needed. This was done by the boys in the main with some help from teachers.I remember hauling large pieces of concrete and building a wall with them and then filling in behind with stuff dug from the pond.We also put a small island in.Fish were caught from the Whiske and transported back to school(wouldn't get away with that now)Roach mainly and I can remember fishing in the pont and catching some, great days. It's nice to see the old place in such good condition I only have the fondest memories of Breck.
