David attended a Quaker school, Leighton Park in Reading. He has a degree in social anthropology from the LSE, which may explain why he’s still interested in human behaviour in and out of groups.
He now lives in Storwood in East Yorkshire.
His varied experience includes university lecturing and research into aspects of residential care, work at the sharp end in a Borstal; later managing Social Services Departments, the last of which was Humberside where he was Director.
He has subsequently chaired several charities, notably British Agencies for Adoption and Fostering, Anchor Trust and MIND, and as an independent consultant on the management of change has advised national and local governments. He steered York Area Quaker Meeting through its successful transition to charitable status. He is a Trustee of the Yorkshire & Humberside Circles of Support and Accountability.
Since joining the Board as a Trustee Governor, David has busied himself learning how school and board function and he is now Convener of the Finance Committee and a member of the Board’s nascent Fund-Raising Group. He has helped simplify some of our procedures and it’s no surprise that he is keen to see how the school can (to adapt its old motto) change to succeed.
