Graham Ralph

Graham lives in York with his wife Alison.  Both are experienced teachers, Graham being about to retire from an influential post as Deputy Head at Bootham School in York.  He has been a Quaker for decades and has a full range of earlier teaching appointments, in England and Kenya.

His official subject is Geography; and he tries to apply a major interest in peace education at Bootham by bringng conflict-resolution approaches into pastoral care.  He has long nurtured a feeling for those in special education settings and was appointed by Quakers in Yorkshire to be a Trustee here a few years ago.

Graham is currently on our Education and Care Committee and the Personnel Committee where his quiet manner and highly perceptive listening are appreciated; and his contributions to discussions and decision-making are greatly valued.  His particular interests in the school are pastoral care, Quaker methods, staff support.

Graham knows that “all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy” and has several very active hobbies including gardening and running.  These help to keep him anything but dull and you have to look out for his sense of humour.  Seriously though, we hope that retirement will soon make his skills and understanding  more available to both school and Board.
