Jim Shaw

Jim Shaw lives in Topcliffe with his wife, a head teacher, and two of his four grown up children.

After twenty years working at ‘the chalk face’ as a teacher, Jim did a degree in architecture. Since then he has mixed designing house extensions with running a couple of holiday cottages and being a house husband.

Jim became a co-opted governor in 2004 after working as one of the waking ‘night watchmen’ at Breckenbrough for a number of years. When he started work at Breckenbrough it was ’just a job’, but he tells us that as time passed the place got its hooks into him, as it has for many others.

He has an all-consuming (he says ‘slightly nerdy’) interest in architectural history, especially the history of the English country house.

Before his time as a governor comes to an end in 2012, Jim would like to see the governing body at Breckenbrough adopt a well thought out strategic plan to carry it through towards its centenary in 2033.
