Conflict Resolution

The Breckenbrough model of conflict resolution

1. STRUCTURE

A structure designed to reduce confrontations.

2. DE-ESCALATION TECHNIQUES

Staff trained and skilled at defusing confrontations. Pupils encouraged to maintain good behaviour and to support each other.

3. CONFLICT RESOLUTION

Following conflicts, when the situation has calmed the reasons for the confrontation are discussed and strategies put in place to try and prevent a recurrence.

4. CONFLICT RESOLUTION OF INNER PROBLEMS

Where it is appropriate pupils are supported in addressing and resolving difficulties that have evolved from their past and current experiences.

IN SUMMARY

The result is that when you visit the school you will enter a place that has a calm relaxed atmosphere but with a sense of purpose.

The boys will be naturally polite and open.

The majority will have a good understanding of the school and of themselves.

They are likely to know how they have developed and grown while they have been at Breckenbrough and have a realistic opinion of where they need to go.

It is in this honest, trusting and caring community, where each pupil has had to address difficulties and search for solutions that each boy is enabled to move towards fulfilling their academic, personal and social potential.
