Career’s guidance, events and transitions during national lockdown  

Alternative ways of working on career pathways have been used during lockdown periods. 

  • Year 11 students continue to work towards NCFE Employability Skills Level 1 Award via TEAMS lessons with Sally.  
  • Students making transitions to Colleges/Universities have been supported to access open days virtually.  
  • Sally arranges meetings via ZOOM/TEAMS meetings with providersparents and students.  
  • Students have worked via TEAMS with Sally to complete College/University/CV/Job application forms and for 1to1 careers guidance appointments.  
  • Students from Year 10 – Year 14 are notified of Unifrog career events via TEAMS 

Virtual Careers Event Calendar 

Careers and Skills Fair – online live – 26th January 10am, repeated 28th January 6pm for all students from Year 10 – 14 and parents/carers 

The event: 

  • highlights key skills that transfer across a huge range of different careers and opportunities 
  • showcases key sectors and explore the breadth of possibility within the world of work – people gain experience, opportunities and jobs in thousands of different ways 
  • Inspires and creates positivity in young people’s careers prospects 

Aims to support young people to make informed choices about education, training and career opportunities available in York and North Yorkshire and assist them in navigating the pathways available to them to support their successful futures.  

Local employers such as, NHS, FERA, LNER, Kier Construction, Nestlé as well as representatives from the Maritime industry and many more have signed up to support and have produced a range of short videos around careers and skills in health and social care, science and engineering, construction, transport and logistics, the creative and digital sector and much more.

HMRC Counter Fraud Investigator Apprenticeship 

The Counter Fraud Investigator Apprenticeship (CFIA) has been designed in collaboration with government organisations known as ‘Trailblazers’. Mapped to the Investigation standards of the Government Counter Fraud Profession, the apprenticeship will present a consistent cross-government approach to assessing standards and provide an opportunity for individuals to pursue a new career in counter fraud. In HMRC we are closely collaborating with our training team to finalise the curriculum that will be delivered to future apprentices and are looking forward to starting recruitment under this scheme in 2021.

JTL Becoming a JTL Apprentice 

This presentation provides information, advice and guidance on how to develop a rewarding career in the building services engineering sector, as an electrician or a plumbing & heating engineer, through a JTL Apprenticeship. Average earnings over £32k per year are achievable once fully qualified.

ASK Apprenticeships ‘What is an Apprenticeship and what opportunities are available? 

The National Apprenticeship Service explore the main benefits of Apprenticeships and how they should be considered as a real alternative to full time education. 

Discussing the range of qualifications that can be achieved, including Higher and Degree Apprenticeships, the range of sectors in which you can work and learn, the potential job roles; from a Solicitor, Cyber Security expert to a Digital Marketing Apprentice and find out where to start your search and apply.

Trafford Housing Trust Insights into Apprenticeships at THT 

Talking to the apprenticeships lead, a current and past apprentice, the Schools Partnership Programme Manager explores apprenticeships at THT with advice for future candidates on how to apply, and succeed in an apprenticeship

RAF Apprenticeships in the RAF

The Metropolitan Police Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship 

Keeping London safe 24/7. Come and find out more about the fantastic opportunity of joining the Met Police on a degree apprenticeship. This is now the main way for school leavers to join the Met.
