Music at Breckenbrough is offered through the KS2 curriculum but can also be pursued through our enrichment programme. Enjoyment and engagement is achieved through the practical experience, where pupils are able to experiment with many different instruments allowing them to find their preferred one to focus on.
In curriculum lessons, pupils gain knowledge on the origins of different music styles, how music is notated, how music can make us feel and much more. It is a chance for pupils to express themselves in a novel and constructive way.
Music sessions during enrichment take a different approach to structured lessons, specialising in learning to play an instrument. Usually lasting half an hour, pupils are given time to ‘free-play’ but will be guided into improving their chosen skill, often perfecting and improving very quickly. Specialist music tutors can be arranged if the expertise is not available in school.
