About the Woodland Centre

Welcome from Breckenbrough School Head, Simon Bannister

‘A very warm welcome to the Woodland Centre, an exciting new chapter of Breckenbrough School. The alternative provision offered at the Woodland Centre will be underpinned by our core values of respect, equality, forgiveness, transparency and simplicity, supporting the vision to improve the quality of life for all learners. We believe that our commitment to a holistic and person-centred approach to education and learning can support our learners in working towards becoming healthy, happy and successful adults’.

Vision

To provide a safe, nurturing, inclusive and inspiring alternative provision in a woodland-based learning environment, where every student is seen, heard and valued. We aim to re-engage young people in education through meaningful, nature connected experiences.

Through learning in the natural world, we will empower young people to build life skills, develop emotional resilience and discover their unique strengths, preparing them to lead happy, healthy and fulfilling lives.

What makes us different!

The Centre

Our Woodland Centre offers a unique, calm, sensory-rich, immersive alternative provision where students reconnect with nature, develop essential life skills and grow through hands on sustainability-focused education.

We empower young people to thrive academically, emotionally and socially, all whilst fostering a deep respect for the environment and a commitment to a sustainable future.

Rooted in the heart of a woodland area, our centre champions environmental education, sustainability and hands-on learning – empowering every learner to thrive academically, emotionally and ecologically.

Additional Support

As part of the provision at Breckenbrough School, we have a team of professionals who deliver therapeutic interventions that include Speech and Language (SALT), Occupational Therapy (OT) and Psychology Services. Although these therapies will not be accessible or included in the offer for students at the Woodland Centre, there may be opportunities for therapeutic advice and signposting via the Woodland Centre staff and this team. This collaboration could offer information, advice, guidance and signposting if appropriate. Any such conversations would be on an individual basis and would not be as standard or included in the provision at the Woodland Centre.
