is so much more than a ‘pat on the back’ for completing a programme of activities; it is recognition of a young person’s successful journey of self-discovery and development, renowned by employers and universities alike for the qualities young people who have achieved a DofE Award gain. It’s balanced programme develops the whole person – mind, body and soul, in an environment of social interaction and team working.
We have been delivering the DofE for 8 years and it’s been very successful for our students, giving them the opportunity to step outside of their comfort zone and push through to complete the award.
The award has also given us the opportunity to give something back to the local area. For the last five years, we have been doing our volunteering with North Yorkshire Moors National Park Authority helping them with various tasks to improve and maintain the upkeep of the moorland. We have helped build trail paths for bikes, resurfaced the car park at the visitor centres and built new walking paths. This has been great for our students to see what they have achieved in supporting the national park as, Breckenbrough School uses this area on a regular basis.
